The world's first three dimensional real-time augmented reality browser will be available in June, thanks to LG Electronics and Wikitude.
The South Korean electronics company is launching a new smartphone, the LG Optimus 3-D, which will include an augmented reality browser. The ultimate gadget will hit Europe's shops in the summer.
This ground-breaking technology will surpass the two dimensional augmented reality (AR) displays which until now, could only display overlapped objects and images in a flat view. The new browser will bring places and landmark attractions to life with its new 3-D format.
The concept of augmented reality is the idea of being able to have 'live direct or an indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input, such as sound or graphics'.
Martin Herdina, chief executive of augmented reality application Wikitude, said: 'The synergy here is simply perfect and the resulting partnership has the potential to take both AR (augmented reality) and smartphones to a whole new level.'
Dr Jong-seok Park, chief executive of LG Mobile Communications Company, said that such innovative technology is 'praised for its potential to replace the abstract realities of standard mobile browsers'. He added that the software that was used to create the product is what 'pushes this reality a step further.'
G Optimus 3-D is also launching a collection of ground breaking initiatives, including the first dual-core, dual-channel, dual-memory architecture. and the famed 3-D glasses, that cinemagoers dread, can finally be binned as LG Optimus creates the first fully glasses-free 3-D platform.
