Working in public relations is the second most stressful job out of 200 career choices, according to a new study by careercast.com.
Only a commercial airline pilot, with their complicated dashboards and the lives of hundreds of passengers in their hands, has a more stressful day job.
Four out of the top ten most stressful jobs are associated with media. Paramedics ranked ninth, while estate agents came in at number ten.
Tony Lee, publisher of careercast.com, puts the results down to the fact that jobs in communications often require crisis management skills, which can be stressful at the best of times.
The survey covered 11 aspects, such as work environment and competitiveness among employees, to rank professions.
At the other end of the spectrum, the top ten least stressful jobs were healthcare related, with audiologists topping the list. Mathematicians came in eighth place and chiropractors had the tenth least stressful job.
Lee said that jobs requiring the least risk-taking and dangers put less stress and pressure on employees. He said: 'Jobseekers who want a laid back career and a high quality of life should look for professions that involve shorter work weeks, low pressure and little competition.'
