There will be some disappointed mums on Sunday as a poll revealed that over 45 per cent of people will use Facebook or send a text instead of writing a traditional Mother's Day card.
These errant offspring blame rising prices of cards and stamps and busy schedules as the main reasons why they will turn to social media, while one in ten will rely on the age old excuse: the card must have been lost in the post.
Pam Gibson, founder of online greetings card shop the-cardboutique, who carried out the survey of 2,000 people, said: 'It's always been said that the card you send says a lot about you - but sending no card at all says even more, unfortunately.'
