The Bank aims to use Twitter to improve communications

The Reserve Bank of Australia is attempting to improve transparency by tweeting its latest announcements and speeches.
The move follows Australia's treasurer Wayne Swan who joined Twitter earlier this month after being egged-on by his own children.
This is not the Reserve Bank's first attempt to improve communications. For the past two years, the bank has allowed audio and text of all board members' speeches to be posted on its website. It has also provided an RSS feed enabling users to search more easily for the Reserve Bank's research and related articles.
Media office manager Daniel Fitzpatrick said this function 'will be used for some of our announcements, like speeches or a statement on monetary policy, letting people know that these are now up on our website'.
The Bank has also drawn criticism after it delayed to publish new interest rates until one day after they were fixed. With more than 1,100 followers, @RBAInfo is now well on its way to becoming one of the world's most transparent central banks.
