Labour MP favours modern methods and delivers Commons speech from iPad

Just days after MPs were given permission to tweet from the House of Commons and use tablet devices, a politician has scored a digital media first by delivering a speech using an iPad rather than the more traditional paper notes.
Kerry McCarthy, Labour MP for Bristol East, delivered the first iPad speech on Monday, although she had not intended to do so. 'I did have a printed version, but was called so late I started playing around with the speech on iPad so read it from there,' she said.
All Parliamentary speeches are recorded in the official Hansard record of proceedings, and MPs normally send across their speech notes. But McCarthy's novel approach created a new problem for the digital age. She tweeted: 'Hansard want my iPad!' The situation was later resolved with a rough copy of her speech.
Previously dubbed Labour's Twitter Tsar, McCarthy regularly tweets from her @KerryMP Twitter account, which already has more than 8,000 followers.
McCarthy has since tweeted to fellow Labour MP Kieron Merrett, and Twitter user, to thank him for teaching her how to use an iPad. She tweeted: '@kieronam. How would I survive without you?!'
