A new social media site to allow travellers to connect with like minded people visiting the same holiday resort at the same time before they depart for the airport has been launched.
Targeted at 18 to 35 year olds, 'Hang out on Holiday' has been launched by Paul Stanyer, former chief executive of Internet transfer company Holiday Taxis.
He said: 'People tend to go on holiday for three main reasons, to get a sun tan, to drink and to meet and have fun with people of the same and opposite sex. Up until now you have to wait until you get to the resort to start the process of meeting new people.
'Hang Out allows the process of 'hooking' up with people prior to travel thus starting the holiday fun and banter the moment you have booked, enabling you to socialise through this, or other, social media sites. There is also an alert system that advises when new members have registered and are going to the same place as you.'
The site currently features 40 resorts, but others are currently being added. An online diary allows members to check out what is happening at their resort at the time of their holiday, and offers access to a range of benefits such as discounted tickets to nightclubs.
Travellers who cannot quite decide on their destination can register to get placed in the Departure Lounge, where they can connect with other wavering holidaymakers.
