Heinz UK is selling a limited edition version of its world famous tomato ketchup exclusively on Facebook.
Heinz Tomato Ketchup UK, which has more than 44,600 fans for its Facebook page, is selling the first 3,000 bottles of the limited edition Heinz Tomato Ketchup with Balsamic through the social networking site. The remaining 997,057 bottles will be available in supermarkets later this month. Customers need to 'like' Heinz Tomato Ketchup UK to be able to buy the limited edition sauce, which costs £1.49 and is restricted to one bottle per Facebook user. Heinz, which says it will take seven days to deliver the bottles, will pay the post and packaging. The new version swaps the traditional spirit vinegar ingredient for balsamic vinegar.
Heinz marketing manager Ian McCarthy told PA: 'As a leading grocery company Heinz is very much aware of the evolving channels consumers use to buy and engage with brands.
'Social media is increasingly at the forefront of this consumer consumption evolution which is why we've decided to use our popular UK Facebook page to ensure our most loyal fans get the chance to try Heinz Tomato Ketchup with Balsamic Vinegar before anyone else.
Duchess Kcool was unimpressed, however, writing on Heinz Tomato Ketchup UK's wall: 'What guarantee do I get that it will not go off after five years? Heinz is like worse than Scrooge.' Heinz replied: 'HI Duchess, the expiry date on the bottles is until the end of the year but we're sure that it won't be around that long, once you've tasted it.'
