Job opportunities in marketing, PR and digital media are at their highest level for more than 14 months although salaries have yet to rise dramatically, according to the latest monthly update from recruitment consultants Reed.
Job opportunities across the country rose more strongly in February than January, according to The Reed Job Index, which launched in December 2009, while employer demand for new staff is up 26 per cent since February 2010.
Marketing and PR was one of 27 different job sectors across the private sector that last month recorded their highest levels since the index launched. Demand for staff in this sector is now more than 50 per cent higher than December 2009.
Demand for staff in digital and creative media was even stronger last month, recording a 69 per cent improvement from when the index was launched and more than 50 per cent higher than February 2010. Only the leisure and tourism sector recorded stronger growth last month.
But the recession has impacted salaries. In real terms, employers are offering salaries two per cent lower than December 2009 for opportunities in the digital media sector and just two per cent higher to recruit staff in marketing and PR.
Martin Warnes, managing director of reed.co.uk, which lists more than 90,000 job opportunities every day, said: 'Employers right across the private sector are showing their confidence by recruiting new staff at a time when high competition for new jobs is still keeping a cap on salaries.'
