One in ten of Australia's Generation Y admit that they lie about where they actually are on the 'check in' features on smart phones to appear cool, a new survey by Telstra reveals.
And almost 70 per cent of those surveyed believe their friends use Facebook Places and status updates to appear cooler, while one third admit they download quirky iPhone apps that they will never use to seem trendy to their pals.
Unsurprisingly, perhaps, it is the Gen Y men, aged between 18 and 30, who are more likely to lie than females. One in five men admitted that they had lied about their location compared to just 12 per cent of Gen Y women.
