The Welsh Assembly government is calling on its three million strong population and fans to raise the profile of the country by sending their St David's Day messages and greetings using the hashtag #stdavidsday.
The aim is to make St David's Day one of the most popular Twitter topics trending around the world on 1 March.
A St David's Day Twibbon has also been created, incorporating the Welsh flag and daffodils, for supporters to use on their profile pictures.
The Welsh Assembly, which currently has more than 2,100 followers on Twitter, traditionally uses St David's Day as a platform to raise awareness about Wales and encourage tourism and inward investment.
First Minister Carwyn Jones said: 'Social media allows us to start a global conversation about being Welsh and our pride in Wales on our national day. We want to tell the world about what makes Wales so special and why they should visit!'
