More than eight out of ten senior consultants believe that the public relations sector will grow this year while the remaining 17 per cent believe it will remain stable.
The optimistic predictions are found in the first Quarterly Trends Survey from the International Communications Consultancy Organisation, which comprises national trade organisations in 28 countries representing 1,400 agencies.
Nine out of ten of those surveyed predict digital communications will be a key area of expansion within consultancies, while just under half (49 per cent) predict both corporate and strategy and issues management will experience growth.
The fallout from BP's crisis last year continues to be felt, with 86 per cent of respondents predicting that organisations within the energy and environment sector will increase their PR budgets this year, while just over half (54 per cent) seeing growth coming from the health and wellness industry.
Less than 15 per cent of respondents expect PR budgets to grow in traditional sectors, such as property, manufacturing or retail.
