Volvo Truck, the world's second largest producer of heavy trucks and transportation solutions, has formally launched an online Worldtrucker community for truck drivers and enthusiasts.
With the strapline, 'Join the family and get access to all things trucks', the community attracted almost 10,000 members during its development stage.
WorldTrucker offers enthusiasts the chance to share their passion for trucks, with opportunities to upload photographs of life on the road and create discussion forums. There are English, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, French, Spanish, German, Polish and Russian versions available, as well as a mobile version.
The community, which has ten local operations and members in more than 40 countries, also permits truckers who are not purely Volvo enthusiasts to enrol. 'Most haulage firms have various truck makes in their fleets,' explained WorldTrucker manager Paula Kuhnel. 'All their drivers should feel equally welcome.'
Volvo Truck is keen for members to build the content and is taking a low profile within the community. 'We believe we have the chance to become the trucker's first choice all over the world,' said Kuhnel.
