CIPR launches guide for financial communicators

Louisa Coward is the editorial intern at CorpComms Magazine

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations is releasing a handbook to help financial communicators negotiate regulations governing the interaction between companies and the press when price-sensitive information is at stake.
Last month, the Financial Services Authority issued a series of new directives concerning the disclosure of financial information and the prevention of insider dealing and market abuse. One stipulated that all corporate contact with the media should be conducted via dedicated communications channels and that all telephone conversations should be recorded.
The ruling prompted a letter of concern from Fleet Street editors, including Lionel Barber of the Financial Times, who feared it would injure the well-worn relationship between the City and journalists.
Through the Thicket examines the legal and regulatory duties that will impact on the role of financial communicators. It offers a concise summary of the main points and a sense of the spirit as well as the letter of the law.
The guide will be launched at a breakfast seminar from 8am on Tuesday 30 November in Central London (CPC Venues, 4 Chiswell Street, EC1Y 4UP). There will be an opportunity for further questions at the event.
