Queen Elizabeth II joins Facebook

Louisa Coward is the editorial intern at CorpComms Magazine

The Queen has launched a Facebook page for the British Monarchy gleaning 40,000 fans within the first hour.
The page sports a digital court circular with news, photographs and videos of recent royal engagements including state visits from foreign dignitaries, charity work carried out by the princes William and Harry, and details of those receiving honours and orders of merit.
It also links up to the monarchy's official websites, showcasing profiles of members of the royal family. The page is a collaborative effort between royal residencies Buckingham Palace and Clarence House, and the Royal Collection, the family's artistic property.
Users will be able to send messages and post comments of the profile wall, though they are not currently able to befriend individual members of the House of Windsor.
The royal family has already established its own YouTube channel in 2007 and created a Twitter profile in 2009.
