How to make your skills stand out from the throng

IT recruitment site CWJobs has created the world's first augmented reality CV in partnership with PR consultancy Lexis and graphic design agency Exo Design, which may signal a new tool for jobseekers in an ever more competitive employment market.
The prototype CV gives a 3D virtual tour of the portfolio and skills of David Wood, co-founder of software developer Symbian. Prospective employers can experience the virtual CV by holding a trigger image up to their webcam. They are then greeted by a live video of the developer delivering his personal and professional history, accompanied by graphics illustrating the story.
Wood appears amongst highland cattle in Aberdeenshire where he grew up, bedecked with a mortarboard in front of Kings Chapel in Cambridge where he went to university, and surrounded by various incarnations of Psion laptops and personal digital assistants for which he helped to develop applications.
Wood's CV was created by a team of designers, animators, video editors and developers and CWJobs has set up a competition to offer two IT jobseekers the same treatment.
Richard Nott, website director at CWJobs, said: 'We're seeing a trend among jobseekers who are increasingly attempting new ways to get their CVs noticed. Research conducted by CWJobs found that 70 per cent of jobseekers find it difficult to fit all their skills and experience on to a CV, and find it a challenge to present themselves in the best light through this medium.
'Our recruiters have also stressed the importance of jobseekers providing rich content to make their CVs stand out. AR is just one of many developments in CV creation we expect to see in the recruitment sector over the coming years.'
Jason Bradbury, presenter of channel Five technology series The Gadget Show, said of the innovation: 'Augmented reality is one of the most exciting developments in the technology world in recent years. We're now seeing augmented reality being used in advertising, gaming, industrial applications and even in the military and emergency services. The CV is a perfect example of how the technology can bring to life and enhance content in an engaging, informative way.'
