Nike turns capital into giant game board

US sportswear company Nike is pitting postcodes in the capital against one another in a test of speed, endurance and stamina.
From six o'clock tomorrow evening, London will host GRID: Run Your City, a contest in which competitors will race between designated London phone boxes clocking up points and badges and claiming territory as they go. Badges can be won for a variety of skills and achievements, such as speed (completing the day's fastest run in a postcode), frequency (completing the most runs on a given day in a postcode) and dynamism (completing every route between every phone box in a given postcode).
Early birds can also earn points by running between 5am and 8am. Night owls can claim a badge for completing runs between 7pm and 10pm. New badges will be introduced as the game progresses.
Runners can enter individually or in teams, and students in the capital can run on behalf of their university. The game will go on for a fortnight, after which phone boxes across the city will sport the names of the winners from each postcode.
An ambassador from each of the city's quarters will fight for their region. West London will be fronted by singer-songwriter Eliza Doolittle; rapper Professor Green will spearhead the East End contingent; Arsenal striker Theo Walcott will champion the North; and England rugby star Danny Care will rally the troops in the South.
