The Public Relations Consultants Association has today announced a long-term alliance with the Motor Industry Public Affairs Association (MIPAA).
MIPAA represents major automotive brands, manufacturers, suppliers and consultancies and will now become a PRCA sectoral group and take up a place on the PR Council.
Francis Ingham, chief executive of the PRCA, said: 'MIPAA represents some of the biggest brands in-house along with impressive names on the agency side. And our interests are complementary rather than competitive. We can offer them a lot of services and, in return, they increase the authority with which we speak. It's part of growing the PRCA family and increasing our relevance, to make us the main voice of the PR industry.
'We've recently expanded the family by incorporating Women in PR, local government communications and the IVCA. And having known MIPAA and Edmund King [president of the AA] from back in my time at the CIPR, I'm sure we can work together closely and effectively.'
Heather Yaxley, general secretary of MIPAA, said: 'We've been looking for some time at the services we can offer to our members, noting that a number of them had joined the PRCA in a consulting capacity, including the AA.
'The PRCA can offer a variety of services and expertise to our members. And in turn, we can bring MIPAA's specialist expertise in the motor industry to our position on the PR Council. For example, the PRCA is currently exploring the relationship between PR and marketing and one of our members is behind Nissan's endeavours to unite the two disciplines.'
