Welsh union introduces Twitter code for teachers

Teachers in Wales have been advised to show caution when interacting with pupils on Facebook and Twitter.
In its new Code of Professional Conduct and Practice, the General Teaching Council for Wales (GTCW) instructs teachers to 'ensure that any communication with pupils is appropriate, including communication via electronic media, such as e-mail, texting and social networking websites'.
The code is essentially a fairly humble extension of the directive to conduct 'relationships with pupils professionally and appropriately both in school and out of school'.
However the UK's second-largest teaching union NASUWT has dismissed the entire code of conduct, calling it 'neither wanted nor needed' and 'a waste of public money'.
The code was published after a three month consultation period.
