CorpComms Awards 2009

CorpComms 2009
The judges’ decision was unanimous...

Communications activity needs to be tied to pre-defined objectives, from web traffic to revenues, and entries that demonstrated that link were more likely to do well in the CorpComms Awards 2009, according to the judges.

Interviewed by Charlie Burgess, former managing editor at The Independent, the judges, who included Francis Ingham, director general of the PRCA, and Sarah Hanratty, head of communications at the National Lottery Commission, praised strong, passionate and creative work.

They were also impressed by risk taking and innovative work, particularly in the current challenging economic environment, and the increasing prevalence of digital work.

The interviews, which were sponsored by Cision, owner of software platform CisionPoint, provide additional insight into the reasons certain entries triumphed in last year’s CorpComms Awards. All the judges predicted that accountability will become more important, both this year and beyond.

This could prove valuable insight as CorpComms Magazine prepares to invite entries for 2010 Awards.

'A wonderful evening, very entertaining.'

Over 400 guests turned out in style for the CorpComms Awards 2009 on Wednesday November 25 in the beautiful mirrored ballroom of the Park Lane Hotel, where Queen Elizabeth herself learned to dance.

The fourth annual CorpComms Awards once again commemorated the exceptional work and creativity of this most dynamic of industries. Covering a broad range of disciplines, from corporate responsibility to online annual reporting, CorpComms Awards celebrates the very best in in-house communications.

'Hearty congratulations on a fantastic event.  Well done to all on the faultless arrangements!'

This year’s event saw the launch of a new award – the Editor’s Prize, presented on the night to the entry that particularly resonated with Helen Dunne, editor of CorpComms Magazine.

Guests enjoyed entertainment from host for the evening, comedian Jason Manford, star of 8 out of 10 cats, The Secret Policeman’s Ball 2008 and The World Stands Up.

'The best awards bash of the season! It ticked all of the boxes and Jason Manford was an inspired choice – really, really funny.'
Jason Manford

Manchester-born Manford, who cites Billy Connolly as his first inspiration, made his debut when, while working in the bar of a comedy club, a performer failed to show and he stepped into the gap. Six gigs later he was crowned The City Life North West Comedian of the Year.

Described as 'a master of observational comedy' by the Manchester Evening News, Manford has since been shortlisted for the Perrier Award in Edinburgh, for his show Urban Legends, which also picked up the pst's Best Comedy Newcomer trophy.

No stranger to award ceremonies, Manford's mantelpiece currently houses a Writers Guild of Great Britain award, a Chortle Award for Best Breakthrough Act and a North West Comedy Award for Best Stand up on the North West Circuit. He has yet to win a CorpComms Award!
